FREQUENCY STABILITY ENHANCEMENT OF ASYNCHRONOUS POWER SYSTEMS USING AI-CONTROLLED VSC-HVDC LINK
Abstract
Asynchronous interconnection has become more crucial in contemporary power systems due to the growing need for dependable power exchange between geographically dispersed grids.High Voltage Direct Current (VSC-HVDC) systems based on voltage source converters offer a practical way to link power networks that use various frequencies. However, under dynamic disturbances like abrupt load variations and generation loss, traditional HVDC control strategies based on fixed-parameter PI controllers show limited adaptability, which can result in oscillatory power exchange and frequency instability. To assess system performance, simulation studies are carried out under various disturbance conditions. In terms of frequency deviation, settling time, and oscillation damping, the suggested AI-controlled HVDC system is contrasted with traditional PI-based control. The results show that the suggested approach greatly enhances the interconnected system's dynamic response and frequency stability.
