Abstract

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is known as one of the most important cereal crops, it belongs to Poaceae family. The experiment was conducted in the current study to assess two major components such as yield and morphology attributes of various native wheat varieties such as: “Tijaban, Rakhshan, Sariab 92”, “Akbar” and “Urooj” under agro-climatic conditions of Quetta, Balochistan. Experimental was designed under Randomized Complete Block Design and replicated thrice. It was revealed from the findings that Tijaban variety in terms of yield and morphological traits, attributes highest yield plot-1 (1253 gram), grain spike-1 (65), number of spike plant-1 (9), spike length (cm) (12.50), spikelet spike-1 (21.26), grain yield (3133 kg ha-1). Moreover, maximum Yield kg ha-1 (3133.3) was also recorded by Tijaban variety followed by V4 (Akbar), V3 (Sariab 92), V5 (Urooj) and V2 (Rakhshan) with means (2365.8), (2226.7), (1789.2) and (1731.7) respectively and the minimum Yield kg ha-1 was observed in V5 (Rakhshan) with means (1731.7). Tijaban variety also outperformed other verities in terms of quality attributes like Gluten (9.66%), Moisture (7.86%), Starch (67.33%) and Ash (2.13%). It was concluded from the findings that “Tijaban” variety attributes optimal yield, quality attributes and morphological performance and selection of the genotypes is recommended in breeding strategies for future perspective at agroclimatic conditions of Quetta Balochistan.
