Abstract

This dataset contains simulated, reanalysis, and observational data used in Cloutier-Gervais et al. (in review). Simulated data include two configurations of the Canadian Regional Climate Model (RCM12 and RCM2.5) differing in horizontal resolution (12 km and 2.5 km), deep-convection scheme, and driving data. Reanalysis data are taken from ECMWF ERA5 (Hersbach et al., 2020), while observations include IMERG V7 (Huffman et al., 2023), Stage IV (Lin & Mitchell, 2005), and NA-ISD2ERA (Collet et al., 2022). All data are provided in CSV and NetCDF formats. Extratropical cyclone (ETC) tracks are provided over North America (20-80°N, 180-0°W) for 2012–2022 based on the ERA5 reanalysis, and the two RCM12 and RCM2.5 simulations. Model vorticity and pressure fields were regridded to ERA5 and smoothed using a 400-km Cressman filter, and seamless fields were constructed near model boundaries. Precipitation and near-surface wind fields are provided over a reduced northeastern North America domain (195 grid points) for 2012–2021. Precipitation is available for all datasets, while wind fields are not available from IMERG V7 and Stage IV. All fields were interpolated to a common grid and associated with ETCs within 1000 km of cyclone centers.
