Abstract

The Bhotiya people live in the Garhwal and Kumaun border districts of Uttarakhand. Many tribes live throughout India. These tribes are especially famous for their culture, language and history. Currently, the Bhotiya tribe of Uttarakhand is socially progressive and culturally unique and is facing challenges like lack of education and employment opportunities. While gender equality and occupational status are also showing significant improvements, efforts are underway to improve education and literacy rates among the tribal population and these castes are trying to maintain their cultural identity along with modern style. Scheduled tribes are sometimes also commonly called by various other names such as Hill tribes, Forest tribes and Tribal tribes etc. In the State of uttarakhand also mainly five tribes namely Boksa, Raji, Tharu, Jaunsari and Bhotiya reside. In the present research paper, research has been done on the socio- cultural status of the Bhotiya tribe of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state.
