AN ANALYSIS OF AWARENESS AND UTILISATION OF GOVERNMENT EDUCATION SCHEMES IN COIMBATORE DISTRICT
Abstract
This study examines the level of awareness and use of government education schemes by students in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. Although the state has been actively implementing its flagship initiatives such as “Pudhumai Penn” and “Tamil Pudhalvan”, there is still a gap between policy-making and people’s benefits at the grassroots level. This study adopts a descriptive research approach to assess the impact of socio-economic factors, including the literacy levels of parents and the location of students (urban versus rural blocks), on the availability of these welfare programs. The findings of this study indicate that, although there is a moderate level of awareness about financial assistance, there is still a substantial lack of awareness about the application process at the grassroots level in the Valparai and Anaimalai regions of the Coimbatore district. The study concludes that the major obstacles to complete utilization are administrative, including documentation and digital literacy.
