DISCREPANCY IN SELECTION/APPOINTMENT OF HIGH COURT & SUPREME COURT JUDGES IN INDIA
Abstract
This paper examines the mechanisms for appointing judges to India’s High Courts and Supreme Court, highlighting systemic discrepancies, challenges, and implications for judicial independence, transparency, and representation. While the constitutional framework seeks merit and autonomy, practical issues in the collegium system have led to criticism regarding transparency, regional imbalance, delays, and lack of diversity.
