Abstract

Children living with HIV/AIDS are vulnerable to opportunistic infections that can worsen their clinical conditions and lower their quality of life. Family support plays a key role in enhancing health outcomes for children with chronic illnesses. However, empirical studies on the combined impact of opportunistic infection profiles and family support on the quality of life in children with HIV/AIDS in Indonesia are scarce. This study aims to examine the relationship between opportunistic infection profiles, family support, and the quality of life in children with HIV/AIDS. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 60 children diagnosed with HIV/AIDS at Dr. Kariadi Hospital in Semarang, selected through purposive sampling. Data on opportunistic infections were collected from medical records, while family support and quality of life were assessed using structured questionnaires. The analysis, conducted using the chi-square test, revealed significant associations between opportunistic infection profiles and quality of life (p = 0.001), and between family support and quality of life (p = 0.002). The findings highlight that fewer opportunistic infections and stronger family support are linked to better quality of life, emphasizing the need for family-focused interventions such as education, mentoring, and emotional support.
