Hubungan antara Fatigue dengan Kualitas Hidup Pasien Kemoterapi
Abstract
Chemotherapy is the primary therapy in cancer treatment, aimed at suppressing cancer cell growth and improving patient survival rates. However, it often causes various side effects, one of which is fatigue, which is the most common complaint. Cancer-related fatigue is a condition of physical, emotional, and cognitive exhaustion that is persistent, disproportionate to activity, and cannot be resolved by rest alone. This can disrupt daily activities and reduce the patient's quality of life. This study aims to determine the relationship between fatigue levels and quality of life in patients undergoing chemotherapy. The study used a cross-sectional design involving 124 inpatient chemotherapy patients at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang. Fatigue levels were measured using the Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI), while quality of life was assessed using the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30). Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Somers' d test. The results showed that the majority of respondents experienced mild fatigue (86.3%) and had a high quality of life (67.75%). Statistical tests showed a strong and significant relationship between the level of fatigue and the quality of life of chemotherapy patients (r = −0.643; p = 0.000), which indicates that the higher the level of fatigue, the lower the quality of life of patients, so that comprehensive fatigue management interventions are needed to improve patient well-being during chemotherapy.
