Abstract

Personnel scheduling in the technical inspection field belongs to the class of NP-hard problems. This paper addresses a multi-skilled inspectors scheduling problem using the Cuckoo Optimization Algorithm (COA), a population-based metaheuristic that has demonstrated strong performance on similar scheduling problems. The essential objective is to provide an efficient solution approach and to benchmark the results of COA against those obtained with the Greedy randomized adaptive search procedure (GRASP) on a real case study from a technical inspection company in Tunisia. The computational results show that COA yields better schedules and improved solution quality compared to GRASP, in terms of both effectiveness and performance.
