Abstract

This chapter explores the evolving landscape of teacher education within a global context, focusing on the persistent challenges and emerging innovations that shape the preparation and professional development of teachers worldwide. As education systems respond to the demands of globalization, technological advancement, and social transformation, teacher education must adapt to cultivate educators who are not only competent in content and pedagogy but also responsive to diverse learner needs, cultural contexts, and dynamic classroom realities. The chapter examines key challenges facing teacher education—including disparities in access and quality, theory-practice disconnection, inadequate policy frameworks, and limited professional support structures—particularly in low-resource and developing settings. In response, it highlights a range of innovative approaches such as digital and blended learning models, practice-based teacher preparation, culturally responsive pedagogy, and global collaborative networks that are redefining teacher education across different regions. Drawing on comparative insights and international case studies, the chapter underscores the importance of context-sensitive and equity-driven reforms in shaping future-ready teachers. Ultimately, the chapter advocates for transformative and inclusive teacher education systems that are aligned with global educational goals and capable of fostering sustainable and meaningful learning outcomes.
