Abstract

This chapter explores how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the design and delivery of medical education. AI technologies facilitate personalized learning by tailoring content and pacing to individual students’ needs, while adaptive assessments provide real-time feedback that supports competency-based education. Virtual simulations, AI-driven tutoring systems, and predictive analytics enable students to practice clinical decision-making in safe, controlled environments, enhancing both knowledge retention and practical skill development. The chapter reviews current applications of AI in medical curricula, highlighting how machine learning algorithms can identify knowledge gaps, optimize study plans, and support evidence-based instructional strategies. Ethical considerations are also addressed, including algorithmic bias, data privacy, and the need for transparency in AI-assisted educational tools. Additionally, the chapter discusses the integration of AI into interprofessional education and lifelong learning frameworks, emphasizing how these technologies can complement human instruction rather than replace it. By providing data-driven insights and supporting individualized learning pathways, AI offers significant potential to improve educational outcomes, increase student engagement, and better prepare future healthcare professionals for the complexities of modern clinical practice. Finally, the chapter outlines practical recommendations for implementing AI in medical education responsibly, highlighting the importance of faculty training, institutional policies, and continuous evaluation to ensure that AI enhances, rather than undermines, the quality and equity of medical training.
