The Horizons of Computed Tomography
Abstract
Computed Tomography (CT) – the Nobel Prize modality has revolutionized the healthcare industry for adequate patient management and outcomes. Thanks to Sir Godfrey Hounsfield for the wonderful invention! From a technical perspective, the modality focuses on the differential attenuation of body contents; because of its excellent spatial and contrast resolution, each and every body part can be imaged from “. Compared to MRI, it has a shorter scan time and limited artifacts. It is an essential need of each hospital's radiology department, with referrals from A&E, stroke, ENT, neurology, trauma unit, medicine, surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, oncology, pulmonology, urology, and forensic medicine. CT not only has a role in diagnostics and triage of patients but is also a cornerstone in guided procedures and intervention. PET-CT is a new technological advancement in nuclear medicine. CT has opened new doors for radiologists’ employment, including tele-radiology and worldwide machine equipment trading. CT has brought innovation in medical education via virtual dissection. Because of the ionizing radiation and cancer-related concerns, imaging appropriateness should be considered.
