Perspective Chapter: Higher Education Data Independence Architecture – Integration, Interoperability and Security
Abstract
Higher education data independence is a necessity for strategic success in open, effective, and independent governance. With continuing higher education data growing ever more complex – among students, faculty, finance, research, and quality assurance – universities need to have integrated, secure, and interoperable information systems. System integration, interoperability, and data security are the key pillars of data-independent architecture that this chapter underscores, reflecting how self-sovereign data management increases institutional pride, credibility, and trust. Ultimately, data independence is a strategic rather than a technical option, enabling institutions to operate autonomously, reduce reliance on external vendors, and enhance efficiency, robustness, and global competitiveness with effective data governance.
