Abstract

This chapter provides an in-depth exploration of interval appendectomy in both adults and children, discussing the initial non-operative management of complicated appendicitis, including appendiceal abscess and phlegmon. It critically examines the current evidence regarding optimal timing, patient selection criteria, and the comparative efficacy of emergent versus interval surgical intervention. Emphasis is placed on evaluating recurrence rates, long-term outcomes, and the role of imaging and clinical parameters in guiding decision-making. Through the integration of data from recent studies, meta-analyses, and clinical guidelines, this chapter aims to elucidate ongoing controversies and establish evidence-based recommendations for the management of recurrent or residual appendicitis.
