Abstract

The dataset contains answers of about 250 beekeepers surveyed via an online questionaire. Column's contents: ID_rep: arbitrary unique identifyer of respondents Population: single digit (0, 1, 2). 0 stands for respondents giving breeding goals for a single bee population. 1 and 2 for each of the 2 populations when 2 populations and 2 breeding goals were declared. multi_sel: boolean for distinguishing beekeepers responding for 1 or 2 populations Name_pop: free text entry given by beekeepers responding for 2 populations selection_collective: boolean for beekeepers participating into collective breeding initiatives or not moving_colonies: contains the information of whether part or all of beekeeper's stock for which a breeding goal is given or moved during the production season or are sedentary trait: 1 of 20 possible traits of interest for breeding importance: level of importance attributed to the trait by respondents after simplification of the original importance scale evol_direction: wished direction of trait change through breeding after simplification of the original scale importance_weightOriginal: decrete quantified scale of the level of importance attributed to the trait by respondents on the original importance scale used by respondents (0: useless, 1: little useful, 2: useful, 3: very useful, 4: essential) importance_weight: decrete quantified scale of the level of importance after simplification of the original importance scale, from 1 to 3 importance_weight0: decrete quantified scale of the level of importance after simplification of the original importance scale, from 0 to 2 evol_direction_4levels: wished direction of trait change through breeding on the original scale breed_combination: combination of the various breeds declared by respondents, separated by " & " breed_1: first one of the breeds declared breed_2: second, if present, one of the breeds declared breed_3: third, if present, one of the breeds declared breed_4: fourth, if present, one of the breeds declared breed_assigned: reclassification of the genetic background of bees used and for which the breeding goal is given level_pro: level of professionalization area: main geographic area of beekeeping after reclassification in international names region: original entry of respondents of the main geographic region of beekeepin experience: classification base on beekeeping anteriority: for hobbyists, i.e. beekeepers declaring no income from their activity, the anteriority was based on the period since starting beekeeping; for semi-professionals and professionals, it was based on the period since founding their beekeeping company. Junior (0 to 4 years), Intermediate (5 to 9 years), Proficient (10 to 14 years), Master (15 to 24 years), Senior (25 years and more) quality_label: originally declared quality labels quality_label_simple: simplified categorization of quality labels certification_AB: boolean for organic certified beekeeping or not prod_cat: categories of main productions prod_honey: yes or no honey production prod_jelly: yes or no royal jelly production prod_pollen: yes or no pollen production prod_queenOrSwarms: yes or no queens or swarms production prod_pollin: yes or no pollination service prod_other: yes or no other products selection: boolean for active engagement in breeding or not collective_breeder: specifies for actively engaged in breeding respondents of it is within a group sel_grp: free-text entry of the breeding group nb_colonies: number of toital honeybee colonies farmed
