Abstract

An extensive dataset of flow around an elastically-mounted rigid circular cylinder experiencing vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) in a water canal is reported. The dataset contains time-resolved two-component two-dimensional velocity fields measured with Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) for Reynolds numbers ranging from 4,500 to 15,500, based on the freestream velocity and cylinder diameter. The data covers the characteristic branch responses observed in low mass-damping ratio oscillating cylinders, including the initial, upper, and lower branches, as well as transitional states between branches. Multiple wake patterns are captured, including the classical 2S, 2P, and 2Po modes. The cylinder's displacement history is provided alongside each PIV sequence, enabling coupled fluid-structure analysis. A README.md file is given to describe the files' naming and includes a python script for files reading.
