Abstract

In our research on mirror writing of characters (letters and digits), the children signed their work with their first names (on the back). For these signatures, we introduced a constraint that could induce the children to write spontaneously from right to left (RL). The present raw data compile all the first name writings we obtained in this way. Children aged 4 to 7 may have written their first name in uppercase letters (subfile RLWnamesUp) or lowercase letters (subfile RLWnamesLo). These two subfiles are saved in two formats with identical content: docx and pdf. These data are precious because, to our knowledge, there are no other records of spontaneous right-to-left writing by around 500 children in the literature. Obtained between 2010 and 2014, they are all the more precious given that, with the decline (well underway in 2026) of handwriting on paper, they are likely to remain unique.
