Follicle diameters in wild-type and miR-202 mutant medaka ovaries
Abstract
This dataset contains quantitative measurements of ovarian follicle diameters collected in the medaka fish (Oryzias latipes) at multiple developmental and reproductive stages. The data were generated to investigate the dynamics of asynchronous oogenesis over time and to compare ovarian follicle organization between wild-type (WT) females and mutant females (MUT) carrying a mutation in the microRNA mir-202. Follicle diameter measurements were obtained from whole ovaries imaged in 3D following optical clearing, across a range of ages spanning juvenile non-reproductive stages to adult reproductive stages. For each age and genotype, follicles were segmented and measured from 3D images using an automated image analysis pipeline. The dataset includes: (i) measurements from WT ovaries at nine distinct ages (28, 40, 102, 112, 126, 132, 165, 200, and 259 days post-fertilization - dpf), and (ii) measurements from mir-202 MUT ovaries at five distinct ages (28, 40, 102, 165, and 259 dpf). This dataset provides a quantitative reference for the analysis of asynchronous follicle growth, ovarian dynamics modeling, and the investigation of the genetic impact of the mir-202 gene on follicle organization and renewal over time. It is intended for comparative, statistical, and modeling approaches in reproductive and developmental biology.
