Abstract

In modern high-intensity, near-peer warfare, armored forces can no longer rely on mass, armor, and firepower alone for survival. Tanks must operate as digitally connected combat nodes, integrated into real-time communications and intelligence networks that shorten sensor-to-shooter timelines, improve situational awareness, and reduce exposure to enemy targeting. Survivability increasingly depends on rapid decision-making at lower echelons, autonomous or semi-autonomous action, and tight coordination with infantry, drones, and supporting fires. The future role of the tank is therefore shifting from a standalone breakthrough platform to a fast, information-driven maneuver element inside a networked combined-arms system.
