Vibrio parahaemolyticus pathogenicity infection model
Abstract
Vibrio parahaemolyticusIs a naturally occurring marine organism. Is a major cause of seafood-related gastroenteritis on a global level.Has been identified as an emerging human pathogen worldwide, with an expansion in global cases over recent decades.Global warming and emergence of so-called “pandemic strains” are major drivers of geographic expansion of infections associated with V. parahaemolyticus.Study aimsLong term – to understand the mechanisms associated with the outbreak strains of V. parahaemolyticus.Short term – to develop an infection model to test the pathogenicity of different V. parahaemolyticus strains, including environmental, sporadic clinical and outbreak strains.Presentation for Stakeholder meeting, Nelson, 28 November 2025.
