La naturaleza humana y el altruismo en el Martín Rivas de Alberto Blest Gana: Una lectura darwiniana
Abstract
The themes of reproduction, coupling, and altruism in Alberto Blest Gana's: Martin Rivas all rise out of adaptational concerns and are intimately connected to central issues of human nature. Literary Darwinism is a literary theory based on evolutionary science whose key concept is that literature articulates an intuitive psychology of human nature that is a set of dispositions that have evolved by means of natural selection. Three aspects of Martín Rivas's characters' human nature are analyzed from an evolutionary perspective: what women are looking for, what men want, and altruism. Classic literary works are shown to reflect the manner in which we interact with the environments in which we evolved
