Abstract

Twenty Polish publications classified as original Polish works (not translated from other languages) published between 1740 and 1805, i.e. until the appearance of Jędrzej Śniadecki's work in the "Dziennik Wileński" entitled Uwagi o Fizycznym Wychowaniu Dzieci (Remarks on the Physical Education of Children), were analysed. The study aimed to attempt to change the perception and appreciation of Polish Enlightenment reformers who influenced the popularisation of physical education before the publication of Jędrzej Śniadecki's work.
