COMPASSION AND ITS INFLUENCE ON THE PROFESSIONALACTIVITY OF NURSES
Abstract
The article deals with the phenomenon of compassion in the nursing profession. Approaches to defining the nature of compassion are described and analysed herein. The mechanisms of compassion, emotional and cognitive components are outlined in this article. The relationship between compassion in nursing and the quality of medical care is analysed. A comparative analysis of theoretical and empirical studies is conducted, where compassion is considered as a basic component of nursing practice that helps to establish an emotional connection with patients, improve their emotional state and treatment outcomes.Excessive compassion has been shown to lead to burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary traumatic stress in nurses. Compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress are negatively correlated and contribute to compassion fatigue.Self-compassion and compassion satisfaction are mechanisms that help healthcare professionals cope with the negative effects of compassion. Team interaction and support contribute to job satisfaction and reduce the risk of burnout. The article analyses the scientific sources that study these phenomena and point to the need for emotional stability and a balanced approach in emotional interactions with patients.
