IOT-ENABLED FLEET MANAGEMENT AND ITS INFLUENCE ON COST REDUCTION AND PROFITABILITY
Abstract
Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled fleet management integrates sensors, telematics, and cloud analytics to provide continuous visibility into vehicle operations.By collecting granular data on fuel consumption, engine diagnostics, location, and driver behaviour, these systems enable data-driven decisions that reduce inefficiencies.Route optimization and real-time traffic-aware dispatch lower fuel use and idle time, while predictive maintenance decreases breakdowns and unplanned downtime.Improved driver monitoring and coaching reduce safety incidents and insurance exposure, further trimming operational expenses.Operational cost savings translate into higher asset utilization and lower per-mile costs, improving fleet profitability.Additionally, analytics-driven scheduling and load consolidation reduce empty runs and enhance revenue per trip.Adoption challenges include initial investment, data integration, and cybersecurity risks, but scalable cloud solutions and clear ROI models mitigate barriers. This study synthesizes empirical and industry evidence to demonstrate how IoT fleet technologies deliver measurable cost reductions and sustainable profitability improvements across transport-dependent sectors.Globally observed.
