AUTOMATIC NUMBER PLATE RECOGNITION SYSTEM WITH REAL- TIME EMAIL ALERTS
Abstract
This intelligent parking management system that unites Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) with a humanin-the-loop (HITL) authorization process to strengthen both security and accountability within automated parking environments. The system is designed to overcome major challenges faced by existing automated parking infrastructures, such as unauthorized access through plate spoofing and incorrect character recognition. The proposed model employs Groq Vision AI for ultra-fast optical character recognition (OCR) of vehicle number plates, ensuring high accuracy with minimal latency.Simultaneously, the system integrates the Mailjet API to enable real-time, secure authorization through automated email requests sent to registered vehicle owners. To manage these operations, a Flask-based web application is developed following the Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture. This lightweight yet robust application leverages SQLite for local data storage, handling authentication, authorization, parking sessions, billing, and audit trails efficiently. To facilitate safe and controlled remote accessibility without a full-scale cloud deployment, the system uses a Serveo SSH tunnel that exposes the local Flask instance securely to the internet. This setup enables vehicle owners and administrators to approve parking entries via tokenized, time-limited URLs.Experimental results demonstrate that license plate recognition and owner authorization can be completed within seconds per vehicle, confirming the practicality and responsiveness of the system.By combining automated decision-making with explicit human consent, this hybrid approach mitigates risks of spoofing or unauthorized entries while maintaining high levels of efficiency and trust.
