Girafe, anti-girafe, contre-girafe. Le bestiaire utopiste des espèces possibles.
Abstract
Based on the theory of the utopian socialist Charles Fourier and some of its intellectual legacy, this article reflects on the idea of a utopian bestiary populated by possible species, whose appearance and disappearance depend on moral and political evolution of human societies. Species are not perceived in their naturalness but as hieroglyphs, living emblems of ideas and passions. Without denying the singularity of this original thought, it is also a question of placing Fourier's vitalist cosmology in the history of pre-Darwinian theories of evolution and of considering the fortune of his theory of analogies in Charles Baudelaire and André Breton’s thought.
