Abstract

In the context of evolutionary theory, scientists are constantly called upon to develop scenarios to understand the past. Since the 1960s, some of them have had the idea of turning their knowledge into fiction to imagine either forgotten chapters of evolution set in lost worlds (Gerolf Steiner) or alternative evolutions (Dale Russell, Dougal Dixon, Boulay & Steyer). These zoological fictions, which fall under the category of speculative evolution, combine more or less developed narrative sections with fictional encyclopedias that blend the marvelous heritage of bestiaries with the scientific aspect of natural histories.
