Abstract

What if everyone were granted wish fulfillment? In this work of philosophical short story fiction, a mysterious phenomenon known as "fulfillment" allows people to instantly manifest their desires, from finding money on the street to changing their physical appearance. While the general populace marvels at this new ability, a group of office workers soon discovers that the powerful and wealthy have known about this for years and have been hiring others to fulfill their desires on their behalf. The story follows the narrator as they navigate a new world where traditional work is obsolete and where the struggle for existence is replaced by the need to continuously "fulfill" one's own safety from the chaotic and often destructive fulfillment of others. The story explores themes of social hierarchy, the nature of human desire, and the dark side of a world where one person's wishes can come at the expense of another's reality.
