Design and Implementation of a Secure and Responsive Web-Based Personal Finance Tracking System
Abstract
With the increasing reliance on digital platforms for financial management, individuals often face challenges in maintaining secure, scalable, and interactive tools to track their personal finances.Conventional spreadsheet-based methods and basic mobile applications lack robust authentication, dynamic analytics, and responsive design, resulting in fragmented financial visibility and error-prone decision-making.To address these limitations, this work proposes SmartSpend, a secure, responsive, and user-friendly personal finance tracker built with modern web technologies. The system integrates Next.js,React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and Shadcn/ui to deliver a polished interface, while Clerk authentication ensures secure access to sensitive financial data.On the backend, Prisma ORM and PostgreSQL provide scalable data management, complemented by React Query and TanStack Table for efficient state handling and dynamic transaction visualization.SmartSpend empowers users to record income and expenses, categorize transactions, view analytics dashboards, and export data in CSV format for offline analysis.Experimental evaluation demonstrates that the system enhances usability, reduces manual workload, and improves financial decisionmaking through interactive analytics and personalized settings. The results confirm that SmartSpend achieves an effective balance between security, responsiveness, and usability, making it suitable for deployment as a modern personal finance management solution.
