Abstract

Human Anatomy and Physiology form the scientific foundation for understanding the structure and functional mechanisms of the human body in health and disease. This chapter introduces the fundamental concepts essential for students of nursing, pharmacy, and allied health sciences. It begins with an overview of the levels of organization, explaining how the human body is structured from the chemical level to the organismal level. Standard anatomical planes, positions, and terminology are discussed to ensure accurate description and communication of body structures in clinical practice. The chapter further explores the principle of homeostasis, emphasizing its role in maintaining internal stability through negative and positive feedback mechanisms regulated by the nervous and endocrine systems. Finally, the importance of clinical monitoring and vital signs is highlighted, focusing on their role in assessing physiological status, early detection of disease, and evaluation of therapeutic outcomes. Overall, this chapter provides a comprehensive framework that links basic anatomical and physiological principles with their clinical relevance, serving as a foundation for further study in health sciences.
