Abstract

The accounting profession is experiencing a paradigm shift driven by rapid advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and related digital technologies. What was once a function primarily concerned with historical record-keeping and statutory compliance is increasingly evolving into a strategic, analytics-driven discipline that supports organizational decision-making and value creation. Artificial intelligence, through tools such as machine learning, natural language processing, robotic process automation, and predictive analytics, is central to this transformation. This conceptual chapter provides an in-depth examination of AI’s impact on accounting practices, focusing on its implications for accounting processes, professional roles, ethical standards, regulatory frameworks, and the future trajectory of the profession. By synthesizing existing theories, professional debates, and emerging practices, the chapter develops an integrative conceptual understanding of how AI reshapes accounting in a data-intensive and uncertain business environment.
