Smuggling and evasion of customs duties are major challenges for Moldova in the evolving global economy and trade environment. The rapid development of international trade, technological advancements, and regional economic integration have altered the ways in which these crimes are committed, demanding new and more efficient countermeasures. This paper discusses the impact of smuggling and customs duty evasion on Moldova's economic and national security. It also analyzes the legal framework addressing these crimes, including the penalties for such offenses. Additionally, the influence of international agreements, such as the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, on national customs regulations is explored. Lastly, the article highlights the importance of improving coordination among enforcement bodies and the need to adopt modern technologies in customs operations.
