Abstract

In this article, I propose to explore the main transformations in contemporary criminal law, focusing on global influences and the need to adapt legal norms to new social and technological realities. The analysis will address the evolution of concepts such as crime, guilt, and sanction, while also highlighting new challenges related to cybercrime, economic crimes, and the protection of human rights within the criminal process. It is relevant to mention that, with regard to national criminal legislation, prior to the entry into force of the Criminal Code on April 14, 2002 (effective starting June 12, 2003), the Criminal Code of the Moldavian SSR from 1961 was applied in the Republic of Moldova. This code was periodically adapted through legislative amendments to respond to the social transformations that the young state underwent. Currently, national criminal law is evolving in a direction that promotes increased protection of the individual. In the context of the Republic of Moldova"s declared commitment to the strategic path of European integration, criminal legislation is in a continuous process of adjustment. The legislator is called upon to intervene with clear regulations that align with contemporary realities to ensure the efficiency of the integration process into the European Union, while respecting the normative standards imposed at the European level.
