Diversity of bird species in Chisinau airport area, Republic of Moldova
Abstract
The diversity of bird species at Chisinau International Airport and adjacent territories was established. 79 bird species belonging to 14 orders and 18 families were reregistered. 44 species were recorded on the airport territory, and 76 in adjacent biotopes. The largest share belong to species from the Passeriformes order, which constitute - 61%, the other orders registering a lower percentage. According to the rarity criteria, 4 of the 79 bird species are protected at the national level - Ciconia Ciconia and Cygnus olor in the Red Book of the Republic of Moldova, and internationally Streptopelia turtur and Falco vespertinus in the IUCN Red List, all with the status of vulnerable species. The research conducted confirms that the presence of a relatively rich diversity of bird species in this type of anthropized ecosystem, specific in structure and utility, provides optimal conditions for feeding, reproduction and recreation of birds, thus contributing to the formation of the ornithofauna in Chisinau and to the conservation of biodiversity in the central area of the republic.
