Optimization of the ultrasound-assisted extraction of bioactive compounds from cannabis sativa L. seeds
Abstract
This study investigates the application of modern extraction techniques for isolating bioactive compounds from Cannabis sativa L. (hemp) seeds and characterizes the resulting extracts in terms of total phenolic content, flavonoid concentration, and antioxidant activity. The results demonstrate that hemp seed extracts contain a diverse range of biologically active compounds, including approximately 239 mg GAE/g seeds of polyphenols and 177 mg QE/g seeds of flavonoids. The ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) method was optimized using a 50% ethanol and water solvent system, which enhanced the recovery of these compounds. Furthermore, the antioxidant capacity of the extracts was confirmed via the ABTS cation radical decolorization assay, with inhibition values ranging from 9.55% to 101.91%, indicating a strong potential for use in cosmetic products.
