Abstract

In recent decades, protecting children from violence, abuse, and exploitation has become a priority on the international agenda. In this context, the Barnahus service (a term derived from Icelandic, meaning "Children's House") represents an innovative model of multidisciplinary and interinstitutional intervention designed for children who are victims of sexual violence and other severe forms of abuse. One of the most important principles of the Barnahus model is the respect for the best interests of the child. Each stage of the process - from documenting the abuse to providing psychological support and access to justice - is adapted to the child's age, developmental level, and emotional state. At the same time, evidence is collected in a legally valid manner, avoiding re-victimization and ensuring effective cooperation between the competent authorities.
