Abstract

This paper explores the role of ethics in purchasing decisions and their impact on the local economy in the Republic of Moldova, focusing on the relationship between consumers' moral responsibility and the principles of sustainable development. Based on the premise that consumer choices are not only economic actions but also ethical and social acts, the study analyzes how conscious buying behavior can support local producers, foster sustainable initiatives, and enhance community cohesion. The research methodology involved a qualitative analysis of three real case studies: EcoVillage Moldova, IarmarEco, and the social enterprise Floare de Cireș. These examples were selected to demonstrate the tangible effects of ethical consumption on the local economy and social inclusion. The comparative analysis revealed common factors such as the promotion of local products, transparency in business practices, and the mobilization of community-based resources. The results show that morally driven purchasing decisions generate multiple benefits: they strengthen the local economy, reduce environmental impact, and contribute to the regeneration of social capital. Additionally, such consumer behavior can positively influence public policy and inspire replicable models in other regions. The conclusions highlight the need to educate consumers and support ethical initiatives through favorable policies and community partnerships.
