Abstract

Electronic voting is a topic of great interest in the context of advanced information technologies that are transforming electoral and democratic processes globally. From the election of a national president to local elections, the digitalization of voting promises greater accessibility, transparency, and efficiency. However, the adoption of electronic voting also raises significant challenges related to security, data protection, and the integrity of the electoral process. In this article, we will explore the implementation of electronic voting both in the Republic of Moldova and in the European Union, analyzing both the achievements and the difficulties encountered in this process. Electronic voting refers to the use of information technologies to allow citizens to participate in the electoral process, either via the internet or through specially designed electronic terminals. This may include internet voting, electronic voting terminals, or other technological solutions. The implementation of electronic voting ensures improved accessibility for all citizens, as well as a reduction in costs associated with traditional voting processes. Additionally, it offers faster processing of results and encourages increased citizen participation in electoral processes.
