The Iranian-Israeli conflict - implications for international security
Abstract
The Iranian-Israeli conflict is a long-standing geopolitical and ideological confrontation with significant ramifications for international security. The rivalry between Iran and Israel is fueled by deep ideological differences, competition for regional influence in the Middle East, and mutual threat perceptions-especially in the context of Iran's nuclear program and Tehran's support for anti-Israeli groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas. The implications for international security are manifold: the risk of escalation into an open regional conflict, threats to global energy security, the polarization of international alliances, and the destabilization of the balance of power in the Middle East. Thus, the Iranian-Israeli conflict becomes a catalyst for global insecurity, illustrating how regional rivalries can produce systemic effects on the international order. In this context, the present article aims to analyze the main dimensions of the Iranian-Israeli conflict and to identify its implications for international security, through the lens of international relations theories, regional balance of power, and nuclear non-proliferation regimes.
