Abstract

This article questions the right to higher education in South American countries. Starting from the consideration of the massification of higher education, the objective of the text is to propose a mapping of the different regulatory mechanisms for access to higher education that the countries of the region consider. The debates around unrestricted entry and selective entry act as a backdrop to think about the situation in the region. A characterization of the entry policies in force in each country is presented and by thinking about the map constructed from a comparative perspective, a series of trends are proposed: massification and recent democratizing opening, inequalities in the social participation of vulnerable sectors, the multiplication of institutions and the danger of quality circuits and the tensions between public and private education.
