Development of explosive power in alpine skiers
Abstract
The development of explosive strength in skiers is a key factor in enhancing sports performance, particularly in disciplines that require fast and powerful movements, such as alpine skiing, ski cross, ski jumping, and Nordic disciplines. This paper analyzes the importance of explosive strength in the context of the dynamic and technical demands of skiing, exploring optimal training methods for its improvement. The focus is placed on various forms of training, including plyometric exercises, strength training with resistance, speed training, and specific exercises that simulate skiing movements. Special attention is given to neuromuscular adaptation, the activation of fast-twitch muscle fibers, the development of lower-body strength, and core stabilization. Additionally, the role of balance, coordination, and flexibility is examined in the context of injury prevention and overall movement efficiency. The paper also includes an analysis of the impact of training periodization, load planning, and recovery on the long-term development of explosive strength. Through a review of contemporary research and practical examples from elite skiers' training, recommendations for optimal training programs are presented. The aim of this paper is to provide scientifically based guidelines for improving explosive strength in skiers, which directly contributes to better sports performance and a reduced risk of injury.
