Analysis of exercise habits of Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology ul and Faculty for Computer and Information sience ul students: Organized and unorganized physical activity
Abstract
Physical activity plays a crucial role in maintaining physical health, improving mental well-being, and enhancing overall quality of life. Among students, whose daily routines are often burdened with academic obligations, maintaining regular physical activity can be challenging. Decisions regarding how often and in what manner to exercise depend on various factors, including the year of study, time constraints, motivation, and accessibility of organized workouts. This research focuses on three key aspects of physical activity among Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, University of Ljubljana (FKKT) and Faculty for Computer and Information sience, University of Ljubljana (FRI) students: the type of exercise (organized vs. unorganized), the frequency of weekly exercise, and the students' year of study. The study analyzes how students choose to engage in physical activity at different stages of their studies and which exercise habits are most prevalent. The aim is to understand which types of exercise are the most popular, how the frequency of exercise is related to the year of study, and how students' exercise habits change over time. Data were collected through an online survey distributed to students enrolled in the Physical Education course during the semester. The collected data were processed using SPSS and Microsoft Excel. Through this analysis, we aim to gain insight into potential differences between students from different years and develop recommendations for promoting regular physical activity in the student environment. Findings indicate that students engage in both organized and unorganized exercise at similar rates, with a slight preference for unorganized exercise. Those who opt for unorganized exercise tend to be more physically active, especially those who work out multiple times per week. Senior students are generally more physically active and prefer exercising more frequently, suggesting greater independence and awareness of the importance of physical activity in later years of study. In contrast, first-year students tend to be less active and more likely to choose organized exercise.
