The application of dry needling in myofascial pain syndrome and its impact on quality of life
Abstract
Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is a prevalent musculoskeletal disorder characterized by the presence of myofascial trigger points, leading to pain, muscle dysfunction, and reduced quality of life. Dry needling (DN) has emerged as an effective therapeutic intervention for managing MPS by targeting trigger points and neuromuscular dysfunctions. The purpose of this paper is to examine the application of dry needling in the treatment of myofascial pain syndrome and to analyze its effects on pain reduction, functional improvement, and quality of life. Based on current scientific evidence, this paper discusses the pathophysiology of MPS, mechanisms of action of dry needling, clinical effectiveness, and its relevance in both general and physically active populations. The findings suggest that dry needling is an effective and safe intervention when integrated into a comprehensive rehabilitation program, contributing to improved physical function and enhanced quality of life.
