Developing an Ecosystem-Based Green Hotel Model for Coastal Tourism Destinations: The Green Sanur Framework
Abstract
This study develops an ecosystem-based green hotel model tailored for coastal tourism destinations, with a focus on Sanur, Bali. Utilizing a convergent mixed-methods design, the research integrates ecological, social, and economic dimensions into a comprehensive framework termed Green Sanur. The model adapts and expands upon Bagheri et al.’s (2020) ecological indicators by introducing Green Education as a sixth core dimension, addressing identified gaps in stakeholder awareness and collective action. Findings reveal that while current green practices in Sanur emphasize technical and operational aspects, the integration of cultural, economic, and educational components remains limited. The proposed model emphasizes multi-stakeholder collaboration among hotels, local communities, and government bodies to foster regenerative tourism. This research contributes to sustainable tourism literature by offering a holistic, destination-specific framework that aligns hotel operations with coastal ecosystem preservation and socio-cultural vitality.
