Abstract

The quality of interaction between learners, instructors, course content, and digital interface contributes to effective online learning environments. This chapter illustrates how instructors at a comprehensive doctoral-granting university in the United States effectively implement technology to incorporate interaction and interactivity in online courses, drawing from seven case studies. Using the K-12 Teacher Response Model (TRM) as a framework, we explored instructors’ choice and implementation of technology based on critical factors such as engagement and cost. Rather than focusing on research methodology, this chapter highlights practical examples and recommendations for instructors, instructional designers, and professional development leaders seeking to enhance interaction in online courses.
