Pragmatic strategies for overcoming barriers and implementing palliative care
Abstract
Palliative care aims to improve the quality of life for patients facing life-limiting illnesses. There is a need to establish and expand palliative care services globally, which is restricted by five key challenges: societal attitudes and perceptions, lack of knowledge and training among healthcare professionals, limited funding and resources, poor coordination of care, and ineffective policies and government support. In this paper, pragmatic strategies are provided to overcome these barriers to improve the availability and accessibility of palliative care services.
