Abstract

This study examines the impact of interview structure on job acceptance rates (JAR) by comparing structured interviews (SI) and unstructured interviews (UI). Drawing insights from key literature, including Aslam et al. (2014) and Dipboye (2014), this research investigates how interview formats influence candidates’ perceptions and their decisions to accept job offers. SI, characterized by standardized questioning and evaluation criteria, promotes fairness, reduces interviewer bias, and enhances transparency, making candidates more likely to accept offers. Conversely, UI, which allows flexibility but lacks consistency, introduces uncertainty and potential bias, negatively affecting candidates’ confidence in the selection process. The study employs a literature-based methodology, synthesizing secondary data to assess the theoretical and practical implications of interview structure in recruitment. Findings indicate that SI fosters a structured, equitable experience that aligns with modern HRM strategies, improving JAR. Meanwhile, UI may result in varied candidate experiences, reducing perceived fairness and trust in the hiring organization. This research emphasizes the significance of structured approaches in enhancing recruitment efficiency and employer branding. Organizations seeking to improve hiring outcomes should integrate structured interview techniques to ensure an objective, standardized, and candidate-friendly selection process. Future studies should consider empirical investigations on additional factors influencing job acceptance, such as candidate expectations, employer reputation, and organizational culture.
