Abstract

Background: Stroke is a major cause of disability that has a significant impact on patients’ quality of life, particularly during the recovery period. During this phase, patients experience various physical, psychological, and social problems that require support from their families. Family support is expected to help patients adapt to post-stroke conditions and improve their quality of life. Objective: To determine the relationship between family support and the quality of life of stroke patients during the recovery period at Lavalette Hospital Malang. Method: This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 160 stroke patients undergoing the recovery phase and attending outpatient follow-up at Lavalette Hospital Malang. Samples were selected using a systematic random sampling technique. The research instruments included a family support questionnaire and the Stroke-Specific Quality of Life Scale (SSQoL) to measure patients’ quality of life. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rho correlation test with a significance level of α < 0.05. Results: The analysis showed that there was no statistically significant relationship between family support and the quality of life of stroke patients during the recovery phase (r = 0.079; p-value = 0.322). Conclusion: Other factors such as age, stroke severity, functional ability, psychological condition, adherence to rehabilitation, as well as support from healthcare professionals and the environment may play a more significant role than family support.
