Average nationwide time series of SO2 (1971–2023) and PM10 (1974–2023) concentrations
Abstract
In response to demand from both experts and the general public, the ISKO department of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI) proposed a methodological procedure for creating long-term time series for selected pollutants. The aim of the methodological procedure is to enable the processing of long-term (more than 30 years) time series for annual averages of selected pollutants. The methodological procedure was applied to the annual average concentrations of SO2 and PM10, with time series of the national average being created for each pollutant. These series can be used, for example, to assess the development and trends of individual pollutants or to evaluate the effectiveness of measures taken to improve air quality. The creation of time series is a relatively complex matter, and it is necessary to carefully consider each step and pay close attention to the analyses. It can be stated that the methodological procedure is applicable for processing average time series.
