POLYMER-COLLOIDAL COMPLEXES BASED ON GUANIDINIUM POLYMERS AND SODIUM DODECYL SULFATE
Abstract
A method has been developed for obtaining particles of polymer-colloidal complexes (PCC) based on the homopolymer of 2,2-diallyl-1,1,3,3-tetraethylguanidinium chloride and its copolymer with sulfur dioxide and an anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate. The molar ratio of the components z was selected by turbodimetric titration. It was found that in the case of the homopolymer, the limiting composition of the reaction medium zpr, above which the formation of PCC particles is observed, is 0.39, while in the case of polysulfone, the turbidity noticeably increases already at z equal to 0.06. The low value of zpr (0.05) for the system based on polysulfone is probably due to the low molecular weight of the polymer. In this case, there are no free sections on the polyion that are capable of sufficiently lyophilizing the particle of the complex, and it is impossible to ensure their solubility. In the case of complexes obtained on the basis of a homopolymer and sodium dodecyl sulfate, the system is stable for 1 month. In the case of polysulfone, the system is unstable, turbidity appears in it, and then sediment is formed. Functionalization with ampicillin was carried out by the ion exchange method. An intermediate compound, hydroxide, was obtained by the action of sodium hydroxide on the polymer, and then a modified polymer was obtained by reaction with ampicillin. It was shown that by varying the polymer: NaOH ratio, it is possible to change significantly the content of substituted hydroxyls and, consequently, the degree of the polymer modification. With an increase in the NaOH content, the growth of modification degree is observed, and at an equimolar ratio of the components, it reaches 27-28 mol.%. Based on guanidinium polymers with varying degrees of modification by the antibiotic, PCC particles stabilized with sodium dodecyl sulfate were obtained. With an increase in the content of ampicillin units, the value of the reaction mixture composition zpr decreases, which indicates a decrease in the lyophilizing properties of the modified polymers. Modification of polyelectrolytes leads to an increase in the particle size. Nevertheless, nanometer-range particles are formed, which are within the size range required for physiologically active microparticles for targeted delivery.
